A Savage way to gain social media exposure for a charity
Viva has a long term relationship with East Lancashire Hospice, providing PR, events and social media support to raise the charity’s profile across the local community.
Hospice patients live life to the full, and none more so than cancer patient Jackie Rigby – a huge fan of footballer Robbie Savage. Jackie cut off her hair to raise funds for the hospice, which she attends weekly as a day patient.
Touched by her fundraising, an anonymous benefactor paid for Jackie to have the words ‘Savage 8’ tattooed on her leg in honour of her hero. Viva’s mission? To get a response from Robbie.
We contacted Robbie directly on Twitter, asking him to send a message to Jackie. But the football pundit went one better and offered to give her a call.
Jackie was in tears after speaking to her ‘ideal man’ on the phone – especially when he said he’d pop in to see her. Viva kept in touch with Robbie and arranged the visit. Jackie was lost for words when she got to sit next to Robbie and have a cup of tea.
Viva attended the meeting, creating video and photo content which generated thousands of views on social media – including shares from Robbie himself.
“We have been really pleased with the work that Viva have done for the hospice over the past 16 months. We are receiving more press coverage than ever before and our statistics for both our social media channels and our website are soaring. Our web traffic alone has doubled from 2016 to 2017! We have also gained a much wider reach with stories appearing in national magazines and have benefitted from the contacts that the agency has.
“They are very proactive in coming forward with ideas and have also been very flexible – on one occasion Lisa dropped everything and jumped straight in her car to come and cover a last minute wedding at the hospice! I look forward to continuing to work with them and utilising their expertise in projects going forward.”
