How to do a PR campaign on a budget

We’ve all been there; there’s an event coming up that you’d love to promote, but your budget is on the tighter side. Here at Viva PR, we know that if you have the right strategy, contacts and skills, you can get great results.

Public Relations Example

If you’re following us on Twitter, you might have seen us posting about Hospice Care Week. In advance of the nation-wide event, Viva suggested a mini-campaign for our client, East Lancashire Hospice, to highlight the fantastic work the charity does and to help shout about it to others.

Know your client

One of the keys to a great PR strategy is knowing your client. Viva PR take a hands-on approach when it comes to the clients we work with, and we take the time to understand the type of content they like to see as well as what their audience engage with.

Our regular proactive huddles helped to create suggestions to keep content for East Lancashire Hospice fresh, relevant and engaging.

This year’s theme for Hospice Care Week was ‘I love my hospice’. Our knowledge and experience of the client’s audience, showed that video content was most likely to get a response and achieve a greater organic reach. For the hospice, we filmed people from different areas of the hospice, from volunteering, Creative and Supportive Therapies members (CAST) and full-time staff.

I love my hospice

To gather emotive content, we asked each interviewee why they loved their hospice and asked them to hold a poster that read ‘I love my hospice’, using the Hospice UK branding. We also asked each person to make a heart symbol using their hands to further highlight 2018’s ‘I love my hospice’ theme.

The edited videos were turned around on the same day and shared on East Lancashire Hospice’s social media across the week, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Their followers were encouraged to share and engage with the posts during Hospice Care Week. Viva also utilised the dedicated hashtag for Hospice Care Week, which was #LoveMyHospice, allowing for an increased organic reach.

Over the week, the five videos reached 10,924 Facebook users and 5,485 on Twitter and had a great response from people who interacted with each post.
